PROTECT YOUR CREDIT

Your credit is one of your most valuable assets. If you and your spouse share accounts, you also share he or her debt no matter who does the buying. As long as those accounts are open, you are responsible and risk damaging your credit.

To protect yourself Mr. Radoff suggests you do the following:

Close accounts in both parties name and open new ones that are separate.

Obtain a credit report to determine to whom you owe money to and make sure they are paid on time. Your credit report will assist your attorney with the amount of debt owed and the company those debts are owed to.

Seek emergency protective orders forcing the party who is the bread winner to pay all current outstanding debts on a timely basis and to provide you or your attorney with proof of payment within a reasonable time.

Your concerns to maintain your good credit should be told to your attorney so he can work for you to protect it.
